I think you may get asked this a lot (being a photographer!) so I apologize in advance...! But I've had my digital slr for almost a year now and I have no idea where to start when it comes to getting different effects using different settings (so far I've just stuck to snapping on automatic mode, because I'm just useless with it!) I was wondering if you had any advice on how you got started with photography or know any good sites with tutorials on how to get the most out of it?
(and your blog is really lovely by the way!) xx
hello! how lovely! I guess I learnt by taking a lot of photos and experimenting. I also asked people how to do certain effects. I started with learning ISO & shutter speed and then learning about aperture. I always shoot on manual mode now…
As a general rule for my own photos I shoot on the lowest ISO I can (ie outside is about 100 and inside varies between 200 and 1600). I usually like to have the shutter speed as fast as I can. I usually have the aperture as wide as possible. (I guess this is a personal preference as a wide aperture = blurry back ground and sharp focus.)
I haven’t really read any websites (I find reading instructions very difficult, I learn far better by someone showing me!!).
